Regulatory Pharmacist

Pharmacists work as regulatory pharmacists in both the private and public sectors. In the private sector (pharmaceutical industry), the pharmacists are involved in all stages of development and marketing of drugs.

They are responsible for obtaining authorisation of medicines for use in clinical trials, subsequently for registration and marketing and then post-approval surveillance activities such as safety updates, licensing applications for prescribing information, new clinical uses or new formulations, etc.

They act as the link between the company and the local regulatory authorities on matters relating to the quality, safety and efficacy issues of drugs. In the public sector (Health Sciences Authority), pharmacists work as regulatory scientists or drug evaluators of new medicinal products for marketing approval in Singapore. Others work in areas such as pharmacovigilance, GMP audit and drug enforcement to ensure safety, efficacy and quality of pharmaceuticals and related products in Singapore.
